Virginia established an early reputation as a fraud litigator when she acted in a number of cases for the Alliance & Leicester Building Society against fraudulent solicitors and valuers in the 1990s.
Since then, in addition to fraud cases – she headed Withers LLP’s International Fraud and Asset Tracing Group from 2005 to 2009 – Virginia has had extensive experience of dealing with problems involving joint ventures, partnership disputes and the Companies Acts 1985 and 2006 about which she has both written and lectured.
Her general litigation work has been substantial and varied (see reported cases ) and she brings verve and imagination to complex issues.
Recent work includes:
- acting for defrauded investors in a Ponzi scheme
- acting for a sub-contractor in a defence industry procurement dispute
- acting against a bank on behalf of an offshore fund
- acting for a claimant in a professional negligence claim in relation to a case of fraudulent misrepresentation.
Virginia is a widely recognised expert in legal cost issues and responds to and appreciates a client’s need for commercial advice in this area.
Virginia was a partner at Mackenzie Mills where she worked from 1987 to 1995. On its merger with Withers in 1995 she became a partner of Withers (subsequently Withers LLP). Virginia set up Rylatt Chubb in November 2009 to bring cost effective litigation expertise to the City.
